After Saldance
The Students

India Chadwick

I joined Saldance at the age of 4, and over 13 wonderful years, Saldance turned my love of dance into a passion. The staff at Saldance are the most supportive and loving people I've ever had the pleasure to know, and the studio quickly became my second home. During my time at Saldance I did Ballet and Freestyle group and private classes, achieving distinction/honours in every exam, and later picked up Jazz and Tap, whilst also participating in Easter and Summer Schools and all the shows. As a singer and actor too, I have always known I wanted to use this dance training to pursue a career in Musical Theatre and - at 18 - I have gained an unconditional place on the prestigious BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course at The Guildford School of Acting. I truly believe that Saldance - especially Miss Nicola with her endless support and compassion - set me up to achieve my dreams and I will be forever grateful for that.

I started dancing at Saldance at the age of 4, and enjoyed a wonderful long 14 years there. I started off with ballet and tap, and over the years picked up Freestyle and Jazz too, alongside getting involved with some of Saldance's most fabulous productions. In my latter years of attending Saldance, I was proud to achieve a Distinction in my Intermediate Ballet, after much hard work and lots of support from the teachers. Even though after GCSEs I didn't study Performing Arts at college full time, but took 3 A Levels, my dance training did not suffer in any way. Attending classes at weekends and evenings at Saldance was enough, as the level of teaching is so high! In fact, as soon as I finished my A Levels last year, I was thrilled to be accepted onto the three year Level 6 Performing Arts Diploma at the renowned Bodywork Company Dance Studios in Cambridge. I'm currently training there as I was also offered a full scholarship. A big thank you to all the teachers and friends at Saldance who believed in me and helped make my dreams come true.

Adam Lavery

Saldance has been my second home since I was five. I started with freestyle, and then slowly took up every class that was on offer. Over my 11 years attending Saldance I took many exams and came out with top marks and even some IDTA Nominations. This would not have been possible without the top teaching from the teachers at Saldance. The teachers, especially Miss Nicola, gave up so much of her own time and helped push me to where I wanted to go and to become a professional dancer through private lessons. After achieving advanced level exams in all styles, I sadly left Saldance and did a foundation course at Bodywork Company Dance Studios in Cambridge. I auditioned the following year for the Bodywork Company Dance Studios 3 year course and received full funding for the course. Saldance has been a big part of my life and will forever have a massive part in my heart. If it was not for the brilliant teachers, the training they offer and the amazing opportunities, I would not be where I am today!

From a young age I knew that musical theatre was what I wanted to do, so I joined Saldance Theatre Arts at the age of 14 in the hope that I could gain skills in all aspects of performing arts, particularly dance, in order to begin pursuing my dream. When I first joined I felt so welcome and at home straight away, and I knew I was going to love it there. Two years later, I auditioned for several performing arts schools in London and was delighted when I was offered a scholarship to do a Professional Musical Theatre Diploma at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. I am certain that I could never have achieved what I did without the training and support that I was given at Saldance. I absolutely loved my time in the studios and I wish I could go back and do it all again! I'd like to thank the wonderful teachers at Saldance for giving me the confidence and ability to follow my dream.

Having had no previous dance experience, and certainly no ability, I joined Saldance at the age of 18 in the hopes that I would gain enough skill to see me through my drama school auditions. The understanding, commitment and knowledge that the teacher's at Saldance provided, as well as the welcoming atmosphere and quality studios, eased me into gaining confidence in an area I was otherwise terrified of. Their friendly approach to teaching, in both their private and group lessons, gave me the skills and confidence I needed to gain a place on the world renowned BA Musical Theatre course at the Guildford School of Acting.

Adam has now been on tour as one of the 12 Tenors.

Zoe Hollowell

Saldance has been a huge part of my life since the age of 9, I started attending all the classes, involving myself in the shows and Summer/Easter schools. The staff and studio has been my second home for over ten years also giving me the opportunity to assist with classes; enhancing my teaching experience. I was given so much support when I decided to embark on performing arts as a career choice and now I am studying a Musical Theatre degree at one of the top drama schools in the UK, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance. I would like to thank the teachers for everything they have done for me I wouldn't be where I am today without them and the fantastic opportunities Saldance Theatre Arts has given me.

Zoe now dances professionally for ‘Beaches Resorts’ in Turks and Caicos.

Alicia Furneaux

The first time I ever stepped into Saldance I felt so welcome and knew straight away I would love it there and love it I did. I took many exams during my time there and passed them all with very good marks, I also had the opportunity to perform in some fabulous shows and summer schools. I also did my work experience at Saldance and teaching is now something I would like to do when I am older. The staff have taught me so much and I will be forever grateful for all they have done for me. Sadly I am no longer at Saldance, after completing my Intermediate exams at performer level I auditioned for Bodywork Performing Arts College in Cambridge and was awarded a full scholarship for their 3 year course in professional dance. My time at Saldance helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life and if I really wanted to take dance as a career. If it hadn't been for them I wouldn't be where I am today.

Alicia is now a dancer for Princess cruises.

Caroline Seeds

After Saldance, I joined an all-girl dance troupe in Menorca, Spain. I was there for two summer seasons. After that I joined the circus as a dancer. I enjoyed the circus so much I decided to learn the swinging trapeze. I also worked the corde lisse for two years. In addition, I have been on the flying trapeze, silks and aerial hoop. Also I have had a go at juggling, hula hoops and diabolo. I have toured most of the UK (apart from Peterborough!). I will be spending Christmas 2013 abroad in Marseilles, France at a circus.
